Social help for children in a specialized school in Bishkek

The building, originally as an elementary school, was built in Bishkek in 1928. Since the 60s, this school has been redesigned as a special auxiliary one. There are only three such specialized educational institutions in Bishkek.

Now there are studying children with severe double, triple diagnoses, with concomitant diseases. The building is build for 120 students but now there are more - 238, studying in two shifts. The number of children with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan who wants to attend school is increasing every year.

This year the school accepted 48 children with various forms of diseases who needs special training from whole over the country. There are another more 25 children waiting in line to go to this school because of limited amount of places.

There were several cases when parents moved to Bishkek to educate their child in this school. Now there are about 40% of families from other regions among visitors. About 80% of pupils are children from low-income family and they sometimes don't heve even  shoes, winter clothes, and therefore they don't have opportunity to come to school in winter season.

Teachers are the real pride of the school, 36 teachers that work there mostly have special education - speech therapists, who do their best and sincerely love their work. In addition to basic subjects they teach needlework, applied art, carpentry, and gives psychologist therapy. The school is famous for its sports achievements, the pupils of the school are champions in various international sports competitions in athletics, volleyball, football, table tennis, drafts for children with disabilities. In addition, the program includes home-based training for children with behavioral disorders who cannot be in the team.
