Kyrk Örüm – Premiere

09 June 2025

The long-awaited premiere! “Kyrk Örüm” – a triumph of art and tradition

It is a true joy to share such breathtaking news.
A remarkable event took place in Bishkek – the premiere of the unique performance “Kyrk Örüm,” which became a genuine theatrical sensation. This project is more than just a play – it is the realized dream of the winner of our cultural initiatives competition, the talented director Aizhamal Nasirdinova, a graduate of CSVPA in Cambridge and East 15 Acting School in London.

From idea to stage – the journey of a dream

Last year, Aizhamal earned an honorable 5th place in our competition and was awarded a grant of 100,000 soms. And in June 2025, we witnessed with excitement how her idea transformed into a powerful, poetic, and deeply moving performance. A full house, standing ovations, tears and goosebumps – it had it all.

About the play “Kyrk Örüm”

Aizhamal describes her project as an exploration of femininity, cultural roots, and nature through the myths and legends of the great goddess Umai Ene. The performance touches on crucial themes:
— generational connection,
— the impact of westernization on traditions,
— spiritual ties to nature,
— revival of cultural identity.

This is not just a play – it is a living dialogue between past and present, woven from myths, poetry, expressive movements of the actresses, authentic music, traditional costumes, and even the ancient art of hair braiding.

Triumph and recognition

A full house four days in a row, thunderous applause, and enthusiastic reviews from both local and international critics. “Kyrk Örüm” is a point of pride for Kyrgyz theatre and a source of inspiration for future generations.

We warmly congratulate Aizhamal and her team on a brilliant debut. Thank you for preserving, reinterpreting, and lovingly sharing the spirit of Kyrgyz culture.

We are proud to say: the Apake Foundation stands with those who shape the cultural history of Kyrgyzstan.
